A few notes and education on Sitka Spruce from Hildebrand…
First, and personally, I have to say, as a craftsman creating arrows, the folks at Hildebrand are fantastic to work with! In addition to their professionalism and easy-going nature, their PRODUCT is unequaled. Not only does Sitka Spruce, as a shaft material, conform perfectly to the needs of an accurate, hard hitting arrow, the ladies and gentlemen PRODUCING arrow shafts out of this spectacular wood, pay perfect attention to their task. In my experience, the quality and CONSISTENCY far surpasses that of the age old Port Orford Cedar. If you were to commission me to build you target quality arrows, I would do so out of tapered Sitka Spruce from Hildebrand.
Sitka spruce gets its strength from a very long fiber which makes it difficult to mill and machine; sharper tools are needed. Some characteristics of Sitka Spruce from the “grading and dressing Rule16” and the “export R list Grade Rules” are: 1. Extremely resilient
2. Highest strength to weight ratio of any wood!!
3. Tough-even grained and soft textured
4. Resists tendency to split or splinter
5. Dries easily and stays in place
6. Unusual shock absorbing qualities
7. Withstands sharp impact and suddenly applied loads
THESE COMBINATION OF CHARACTERISTICS ARE UNIQUE TO SITKA SPRUCE AND MAKE IT IDEALLY SUITED FOR ARROW SHAFTS!!!!
I’ll be happy to cut these arrows to your desired length and taper the ends free of charge. Please let me know at the end of the auction exactly the length your desire, measured from the deepest point of the nock to the back of your field point or broadhead.
If you would also like field points installed, the cost is $5.00 (for every 6 arrows). Please let me know what size point (125gr, 145gr, 160gr) and I’ll install them, free of charge. You simply add the $5.00 dollar charge to your total at checkout using PayPal and include in the comments section what grain weight you’d like installed. If you select this option, don’t forget to to let me know what draw length you would like your arrows cut to.
